# DeadPixel VPN Terms of Service Version 14, 29 October 2026. These Terms are written in English only. ## 1. Who we are and who may use the app DeadPixel VPN ("the app") is a free Android app published by DeadPixel ("we", "us"). You can reach us with the Contact button in the app (on the "Before you start" screen and under Legal in the More tab). The button opens the operator's Discord profile. You may use the app only if you are at least 18 years old. By ticking both boxes and tapping Accept and continue you confirm that you are 18 or older and that you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, close the app and do not use it. ## 2. What the app is - A client for public VPN relays that are run by volunteers. The server list is a public list from a third-party website, of which the free DeadPixel service (see the Privacy Policy) keeps a recent copy for the app. The app is not made by, endorsed by or affiliated with that website or with the relay operators. - When you tap Connect, the VPN engine inside the app (open-source software, credited in the source code) connects your phone to the relay you picked. - A helper that skips servers that failed, including a free shared list of failed servers (see the Privacy Policy). - Pixel Hosts: a local VPN on your phone that answers name lookups (DNS) with the IP addresses you set in your own rules, for the apps you choose, and passes every other lookup on to your normal DNS. It does not send your other traffic anywhere. It works only while you turn it on, Android allows only one VPN at a time (so Pixel Hosts, the DNS protection modes and the VPN cannot run together), and some apps (for example those with their own secure DNS) skip it. - DNS protection modes (AdBlocker, Family Protection, Cloudflare 1.1.1.1): a local VPN on your phone that sends the name lookups (DNS) of all apps to the DNS servers of a provider (AdGuard DNS or Cloudflare, or Google DNS as a backup) instead of your normal DNS, as plain DNS or, if you switch on Encrypted DNS (DoH), encrypted over HTTPS. It carries only name lookups, not your other traffic, and it works only while you turn it on. Some apps (for example those with their own secure DNS) skip it. - Filtered DNS inside the VPN (optional, off by default): when you choose AdBlocker, Family Protection or Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 under "DNS Protection" on Home or on the Protection page, the VPN uses the DNS servers of that provider for your name lookups instead of the DNS the relay would give you, as plain DNS. The relay operator can still see your lookups. It takes effect at the next connection, and some apps (for example those with their own secure DNS) skip it. - Apps using the VPN (optional, all apps by default): under "Apps using the VPN" on Home you can choose that only some apps, or all apps except some, use the VPN. Apps left outside the VPN use your normal connection and show your real address and location. It takes effect at the next connection, and we do not promise that every app respects it. - Update check (optional: when you tap, or at start if you switch that on; off by default): the About page has a button "Check for updates" and Settings has a switch "Check for updates when the app starts" that ask the DeadPixel download site (https://deadpixel-vpn.pages.dev) whether a newer version exists, and can open its download page in your browser. The app never downloads or installs anything by itself. Download updates only from that download page. ## 3. No promises about the relays or the filters The relays are run by third parties, not by us. We do not run, check or vouch for them. The app does not promise anonymity, privacy, security, speed or availability, and it does not promise that any server will work. A relay operator can see your IP address and any traffic that is not encrypted by the website or app you use, and may keep logs. Relays can be slow, change, disappear, or be blocked by your network or country. Ping, speed and session numbers shown in the app are "reported" by the relays. The app does not measure them. Avoid entering sensitive logins or personal information over a public relay unless the website or app you use encrypts it. The DNS protection modes and the filtered DNS inside the VPN are best effort. A filter can block sites you want to open, can miss ads, trackers, adult sites or malware, and does not make you safe. A backup provider can filter less than the first one (for example, no ad blocking). Family Protection is not a parental control: anyone who can open the app can turn it off. The DNS providers are third parties. We do not run, check or vouch for them; they can change, limit or stop their service, and they see your name lookups and your IP address under their own privacy policies. Encrypted DNS keeps the names from the network on the way to the provider, not from the provider. ## 4. Your responsibilities - Use the app lawfully. Follow the laws where you are, including any rules about using VPNs, and the rules of the networks and services you use. - Do not use the app to harm others, attack systems, commit fraud or abuse any service. - You are responsible for what you do through a relay. - Pixel Hosts: only point hostnames at servers you are allowed to use, and do not use it to impersonate other people's services, to trick other people, or to get around the rules of a service you do not own. - Do not send false or automated reports to the shared failed-server list, do not try to get around its limits, and do not interfere with the service. - Keep your own device and accounts safe. ## 5. Parts that may change or stop The shared failed-server list and the copy of the public server list are a free, best-effort service running on a free plan of a third-party host. We may limit, change or switch it off at any time. The app is built to keep working without it. The update check depends on the download site and on the hosts behind it (Cloudflare and GitHub), which are third parties: it can be unavailable or limited, and the lack of a notice does not mean that no newer version exists. We may change, pause or stop the app or any feature at any time. ## 6. Licences and source code The app (the installed APK) is released under the GNU General Public License version 2, because it contains a GPL-licensed VPN engine. DeadPixel's own source files are also available under the GNU Lesser General Public License version 2.1 or later, so other people can reuse them in other projects. That offer covers those source files only, not the app as a whole, the engine, other third-party parts, or the logo and icons. The source code is not published in an open repository. Written offer: anyone who has received the app can get the complete source code of the version they have, free of charge. Ask with the Contact button, name the version shown on the About page and say how to reach you; the source is sent as a file and comes with the LICENSE, LICENSE-LGPL and NOTICE.md files, which also credit the open-source parts the app is built on. The offer is valid for at least three years after that version was published. These Terms do not take away any right the GPL or the LGPL gives you for the code. If these Terms and the GPL or the LGPL disagree about the code, the licence wins. Third-party parts keep their own licences. ## 7. No warranty and limit of liability The app is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or damage that comes from using the app or a relay, including lost data, data seen by a relay operator, lost connections, blocked accounts or lost profits. Nothing in these Terms limits a right or a liability that cannot be limited by law. ## 8. Ending use You can stop using the app at any time by uninstalling it. Clearing the app's data erases what it stored on your phone (see the Privacy Policy). We may stop serving the shared failed-server list to an install that abuses it. ## 9. Governing law These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Indonesia. Rights that the law of the place where you live gives you and that cannot be waived are not affected. ## 10. Changes to these Terms When these Terms or the Privacy Policy change in substance, the app shows the "Before you start" screen again and asks you to accept again. If you do not agree to the new version, stop using the app. ## 11. Contact DeadPixel. Use the Contact button in the app, on the "Before you start" screen or under Legal in the More tab.
